Kindergarten Celebrates MLK's Birthday

The Kindergarten classes celebrated Martin Luther King's birthday with a culminating "Peace March" throughout the school. We discussed MLK's dream of equality for all people in a peaceful world. The students designed signs and held them up for everyone to see as they sang the song about "Freedom". The students really enjoyed the "Peace March" and what a great way to use all our smarts to experience one of our famous Americans, Martin Luther King, Jr.

Cub Scout Pack 689 Donates Flag
Pack 689 received a certificate and the flag that they raised at Mount Vernon. The flag is now flying over Montclair.
The certificate states:
Be it known that, on this 10th day of December in the year 2011, Pack 689, provided fine service to the country and to the memory of our first president. Having raised the flag of the United States of American over Mount Vernon, the beloved home of George Washington-a flag proudly flown in honor of the freedom and democracy founded and defended by "The Father of Our Country".
Letters for Soldiers
The SCA sponsored our 2nd annual “Letters for Soldiers” campaign. Students in grades K-5 generated cards and letters to send overseas to the men and women serving in our armed forces this holiday season. In all, the students wrote hundreds of cards and letters, which were presented to Chief Parsons, Department of the Navy, White House Military Office.

MONTCLAIR EARNS AWARD
Gov. McDonnell announced last week the High-Performing Va. Schools.
There are 3 levels of schools being recognized for exceeding 2010 SOL/ Accountability Standards…raising student achievement & mtg academic needs of diverse learners (AYP subgroups). Montclair the Competence to Excellence Award (level 3) for having met “all state and federal benchmarks (AYP subgroup targets for English & Math) for at least 2 consecutive years and are making progress toward the goals of the Governor and State Board.”
Bus Safety
Student safety is our priority; thus, PWCS has established rules to regulate conduct of students who ride the bus. Please refer to our PWCS Code of Behavior document and the attached documents that outline those expectations. Riding the bus is a privilege and failure to obey these rules can result in this privilege being revoked for students.
At Montclair, Mrs. Forgas coordinates our bus program. If you have questions, please contact Mrs. Forgas or Mrs. Soltis. We are very proud of our students being "responsible and response-able" as bus riders! Thank you for reinforcing appropriate behavior with your children
